Suggested Reading
I must admit that I have an addiction of my own — and that is books. The’re stacked in every room of my house and I’m always in the process of reading several at a time. I personally prefer self-help and motivational writings. Every book that I bring home is like a little treasure of inspiration. I get excited about learning something new, gaining some new insight, or seeing things in a different light. On this page I will share the books that I am currently reading, and offer my opinions on what makes it suggested reading for others. If you have a book that you would like to suggest be added to this list, please send me an email at lespich@soaringabovecoaddiction.com
Aspire: 3 powerful strategies for creating more of what you want, now.
I just finished the book, Aspire: 3 powerful strategies for creating more of what you want, now, and I found it to be motivating and
inspirational. If you’ve read my book, Soaring Above Co-Addiction, you know that affirmations and visualization played a big role in y own recovery from co-addiction. I’ve found it’s vital to contiually learn and grow in my practice and understanding of these tools. Aspire was a great refresher course.
The author, Ole Carlson, has an honest and heartfelt style to his writing. I felt as though I spent several hours listening to a close friend share his journey. I learned new tools and gained additional insight and proof that we each have the power to create the life of our dreams. At 182 pages, it’s the perfect afternoon read. I highly recommend Aspire, and I thank Ole for his inspiring contribution to my library!
Get Energy! Empower your Body, Love Your Life
Author: Denise Austin
I picked up this book on my way to a hair appointment. I was looking for some extra motivation to get in shape, but I was pleasantly surprised once I started reading. While it does cover some basic exercise and eating plans, it’s major focus is on finding a good balance in your life and living each day to it’s fullest. We all need more energy in our lives — and this book is packed full of great tips and hints to recharge. It gives some five minute stretching routines, which I’ve been doing for the last two days, and they’re great! Simple, quick, and they really make a difference. Denise covers topics like using affirmations, embracing a positive attitude, focusing on your relationships, and so much more. It turned out to be enjoyable reading, and it did what I was hoping for — it got me motivated. Thanks Denise!
Why Don’t They Just Quit? What familes and friends need to know about addiction and recovery.
Author: Joe Herzanek
Website: http://www.whydon’ttheyjustquit.com
Here is a book that offers real-life solutions for the loved ones of an addict. Joe Herzanek, a recovering addict himself, is able to show us what really works. His first-hand experience gives him the insight and knowledge to lead others toward a life away from addiction. While reading this book, I kept thinking how helpful it would have been for me, years before, when my husband was consumed by his addiciton. Joe starts out by sharing his own battle with alcohol and drug abuse, then leads us into a better understanding of why the addict does what he or she does, he then goes on to offer clear solutions and a game plan for moving forward.
This book is beautifully written — full of honesty and hope. Joe is the founder of Changing Lives Foundation and is a certified addiction counselor. He also offers his counseling services over the phone. I highly recommend this book to those who are dealing with addiction in their households. Joe is living proof that there is hope for a fulfilling and purposeful life after addiction!
